Dromaeosauridae(Raptors) of some type have existed since dinosaurs roamed the earth as a single continent Pangea 280-230 million years ago. The fossil records have still yet to confirm this to be true however the archaeology has recently come to ponder this point as they now think that they existed during time of T-Rex over a 100 m.y.a. and that Rex is also a type of Dromaesaur. The fossil record has a few missing pieces waiting to complete the timeline of these creatures. Actual recorded discoveries and studies show them to have existed up until the end of the Cretaecous period 65 million years ago after a large asteroid struck the Yucatan pennisula in South America devestating the enviroment globally and most all large mammals and other species became extinct marking the end of the Cenozoic era and beginning of a new era the Mesozoic era, which we still live in today. |

Dromaeosaurs came in all sizes from the size of a small bird with 4 wings having feathers on their hind legs or larger than a T-Rex,the Troodon. Currently the largest found is the Utahraptor discovered in Hell Creek South Dakota. Paleontologists having studied these fossils from around the world have found that they had feathers and even some well preserved specimens in Asia have feathers still on them. The forelimb had quill knobs on the bones which indicate pin feathers although not useful for flight they had other benefits. It is believed that some very small species such as microraptor could fly but the majority of the "raptors' could not fly but these feathered limbs did assist with balance while attacking prey and in running assisting with speed, height of jump and agility. They also had a very long rigid tail used for balance while running and as a weapon to knock prey down or attackers away. These two legged hungry feathered meat eaters were very fast and could run from 20-30+mph luckily they are not around we as humans can at best run 7-9 mph. They also had a very large brain in comparisson to their size to most all other dinosaurs. This could possibly make them the smartest as well. We all know about their famous Killing Claw on both feet the largest claw found on the species called Deionyscous being over 13" long was used for slashing and holding on to prey while securing footing. |

Dromaeosaurs have been found in many climates other the cold regions. The earth was much warmer long ago and so they roamed many regions in search of meat. The environment they lived in was very diverse, wooded mountains, grassy plains, sparsely wooded arid areas and coastal areas. |

Raptors are carnivoures they were constantly hunting smaller prey
and dinosaurs, even hunting in packs to sustain their diet they could take down large prey as well.
Just about anywhere things moved dromaeosaurs were around looking for something to eat. The most
famous fossil of a dromeaosaur is of one fight with a protesaurus quite an amazing piece of
archaelogical work. |

Dromaeo (greek) meaning running and 'saur meaning lizard. Don't be confused by the word meaning because they were not lizards they are related to modern birds and especially even the carnivourus raptors of today, such as eagles and hawks whom still have a redacted type of sycle claw. Lizards do not have feathers and did not walk on two legs.Palentalogist are discovering from preserved specimens and from research of existing fossils that their feathers also may have had a few different colors. |
